BEL Demountable Systems Ltd of Chesterfield has dealoped low profile swop body equipment which overcomes ie disadvantage of increased body weight.
Abel's pneumatically)erated lift packs fit between e chassis longitudinals with e new system, instead of being la of a chassis base frame, the ady base frame locating rectly on to the outrigged iassis as with a fixed body !hide. Cutaway sections on the body side raves give the necessary wheel clearance. Twistlock body locking at standard centres and the diagonally positioned locating cones remain unchanged.
The first unit of Abel UniSwop LP went into service earlier this year with bed maker Silentnight whose transport consultant J. T. Windle was involved in the design.
Fitted to a Dodge G13 chassis and a drawbar trailer, the low profile system also gives the advantage of a further 4.5 cu m 1160 cu ft! of load space from the two 7.3m (24ft) long bodies, without an increase in body height. Extra height savings were made with the Silentnight vehicle by specifying Michelin low profile tyres.
