BOMBARDIER (Ireland) Ltd's plans to start producing buses this summer have been set back, but the company is still confident of being in full swing by the end of 1980.
A Bombardier spokesman told CM that spare parts availability problems have delayed the start of production, and he added that the company has still to recruit its full workforce.
But he said that the prototype inter-city coach, incorporating Detroit Diesel 6V71 engine, Rockwell axle, and Allison transmission, is now at the company's Shannon Airport works, and said that the other prototypes single and double-deck citybuses — are standing up to their development programmes.
The double-decker is undergoing pave trials at the Motor Industry Research Association's test track at Nuneaton, in Warwickshire.
