THE GOVERNMENT is expected to take an early decision in favour of road equivalent tariff for ferries to Scotland's Western and Northern islands.
The Scottish Office is said to be broadly in favour of the plan to provide subsidies to ferry operators so that the cost of transporting goods in particular is brought closer in line with what it would be if they travelled solely by road.
