MONDAY was "R" for Reorganization Day for London's red buses, when the new management structure of the Central Bus operating department came into being.
The reorganization, described in COMMERCIAL MOTOR on August 26, is being carried out in two stages and the second stage—extension of route control—will be brought in at a later date.
The reorganization aims to give men in close daily contact with actual services more authority and responsibility with clearly defined duties. Central bus operation has been split into two sections—garage management and control of services on the road. Each garage is now controlled by a manager whose specialist job is to run his garage efficiently and harmoniously.
The post of chief depot inspector has been replaced by that of garage manager, who has taken over some of the responsibilities formerly held by the district superintendent. The four divisions have been split into 14 traffic areas, each under the control of an area traffic manager. Each area will also have its own radio-controlled patrol car.
Park Royal again for Stockton: Stockton-on-Tees Corporation Transport has ordered another seven Park Royal double-deck bus bodies for mounting on Leyland Atlantean chassis, at a cost of £4,670 each.
