• Citroen's Berlingo has made a strong impact on the highcube market since its launch last October, overtaking Ford and closing the gap on market leader Vauxhall.
The Berlingo has sold 2,838 units so far this year against the Ford Courier's 2,804 and the Vauxhall Combo's 4,802. VW Caddy sales at the end of June were 1,618 while Peugeot's equivalent of the Berlingo, the Partner, sold just under 2,000 units. The success of the Berlingo is partly due to cut-price contract hire deals which will remain in effect until the end of September. Peugeot hopes to sell 4,000 by the end of the year—it claims it could sell more but has supply constrictions. Overall Citroen is third behind Vauxhall and Ford in the car-derived LCV sector with 10% of the market.
