• Humber Bridge tolls are set to jump by £4.50 over the next year, the Government announced last week. The controversial decision is the result of a lengthy public inquiry into the Humber Bridge board's bid to revise the tolls. After the latest hike comes into effect trucks will be paying £15.40 instead of the current £10.90 for a one-way trip. However, the Government has pledged to phase in the increases between now and October next year.
The Road Haulage Association says it is "dismayed" by the decision to increase tolls.
Regional director Geoff Dunning says the association had hoped the new Government would grasp the nettle regarding the Bridge's finances—debts are understood to be over £600m. "Those hopes have been dashed," he adds.
