When this photo from the Worshipful Company of Carmen dropped onto our doormat we couldn't help but notice the worrying similarity between its subject and this long-lost cartoon character from the late 1960s. In case any of you don't remember, the Flooded Claw (aka Sylvester Sneekly) was the nemesis and uncle of perpetually imperilled cartoon lovely Penelope Pitstop. The Claw would stop at nothing to obtain Ms Pitstop's fortune—even, it seems, setting fire to a Bristol flatbed truck using a red-hot poker. We assume Ms Pitstop (catchphrase "Heeeeeelp Heeeeeelp" in a southern American drawl) is tied up somewhere under the tarpaulin.
