Materials handling • "Materials handling today" is the title of a one-day symposium being held jointly by the Institute of Materials Handling and the Grimsby Institute of Engineers and Shipbuilders at the Beachcomber Hotel, Hum herston on March 25.
Three speakers will discuss various aspects of materials handling and its importance in the fishing and frozen food industries.
On Wednesday March 26, there will be an opportunity for delegates to visit a number of local factories, to see examples of handling methods.
The symposium fee is—£5 5s for members of the Institute of Materials Handling and Grimsby Institute of Engineers and Shipbuilders; £7 7s for non-members.
For transport executives
• A series of transport management courses designed to help in the fight against rising operational costs will be held from March to June at the Connaught Rooms, London, WC2. There will be six two-day seminars under the title "Maximizing productivity and profit".
The courses will cost £21 per person and will take place on March 11-12, March 25-26, April 15-16, May 7-8, June 4-5 and June 18-19 under the leadership of transport consultant Mr. Reginald Block. The courses are approved for RTITB grants.

BRF in Glasgow
• A one-day conference on road finance and administration is being arranged by the British Road Federation in the Council Hall, City Chambers, Glasgow C2, on March 13. Introductory papers will be presented by BRF vice-chairman and AA director-general Mr. Alex Dune (on road administration) and Mr. David Glassborow, lately head of Economic Research at the THC and now a senior executive of the National Bus Company (on road finance).
Security repeated
• The two-day residential Security Course for Transport Management organized by the Letchworth College of Technology for the RTITB last November (CM November 29) is to be repeated at the Homestead Court Hotel, Welwyn Garden City, on Tuesday and Wednesday April 8 and 9.
The fee is 12 guineas inclusive and application must be made to the College by March 7. The course is eligible for the Training Board's grant.
TM L course
• A few vacancies still remain on the twoday Transport Manager's Licence course currently being arranged by E.G.W. Management Ltd., 118 Wickham St., Welling, Kent (01834 3414). The course, which is acceptable to the RTITB, is being held at the following centres: Harrogate (February 18 19): Altrincham, Cheshire (February 25-26); Peterborough (March 4-5); Bristol (March 11-12); Birmingham (March 20-21). Further centres are being arranged and details are available from Mr. R. Dean Smith at E.G.W. Management.
Compatibility symposium
• A three-day symposium on the -Compatibility of transport systemsis to be held at Loughborough University of Technology, commencing on March 26. The fully inclusive registration fee is E18 1E13 without accommodation or meals); application should be made to Mr. J. M. Charles, Administrative Assistant in the Department of Transport Technology.
Decimal currency
• The change to decimal currency is the subject of one of a series of study conferences announced by Management Studies Centre, 14 Queen Victoria Street. London, EC4. The first conference on this topic is at the Grand Hotel, Birmingham on March 6. the second at the Piccadilly Hotel, London. W1 on April 2.
