By Chris Bruce THE MD of Pallet-Track has welcomed Ballyvesey's takeover of one of his founder members, Bird's Groupage Services, stating it will ensure service standards and delivery continuity are maintained.
Speaking to CM, Nigel Parkes said: "We were aware of the impending deal and happy with [Ballyvesey] taking over Bird's. The new ownership won't alter the current relationship, which sees Bird's covering half of the Birmingham postcode as well as Belfast."
Montgomery Transport Group owner Ballyvesey Holdings announced it had bought out family haulier Bird's Groupage Services at the weekend.
The County Atrim business confirmed in a statement that it had completed the purchase of the haulier, which will be renamed Birds Transport & Logistics and run separately to Montgomery Transport.
Bird's is licensed across multiple sites to run up to almost 150 vehicles and more than 200 trailers.
It recorded a loss of £620,574 in its latest financial accounts (year to 31 January 2012). This was a marked improvement on a £1.2m loss a year earlier. Turnover in the year ended 31 January 2012 was broadly flat at £17.2m.
