ARegulation 56 of the Motor Vehicles i-Construction and Use) Regulations 1973' specifies that a heavy motor car (that is a vehicle weighing more than 3 tons unladen) shall be fitted with wings or similar fittings to catch, as far as practicable, mud or water thrown up by the rotation of the wheels unless adequate protection is afforded by the body of the vehicle.
Exempted are the rear wheels of a tra forming part of an articulated vehicle if it is only for carrying round timber, This applies eV' the vehicle is running empty. Also exempt are vehicles in an unfinished condition proceeding to a' works for completion, and works trucks.
