of its Geartronic automatic gearshift system to the FL10. Geartronic—revealed exclusively by CM in July 1991—has previously been offered only on left-handdrive FlOs and F12s fitted with the SR1700 gearbox. But now Volvo is offering the SR1700-based Geartronic box as an option to the R1400/ SR1400 manual transmissions currently fitted to the ELIO.
So far Volvo Trucks (Great Britain) has only offered Geartronic on left-hookers, but that policy could change before the end of the summer.
Alongside the Geartronic ELIO Volvo has introduced a new interior for its FL6 and FS7 chassis. We will report on these, and other new arrivals on the European truck scene, in our Brussels Show report next week.
El Swift Transport Services has taken delivery of a low-height FL10 tractor with 285/60R22.5 Continental low-profile tyres coupled to a specially developed Montracon trailer, also running on 285/60 rubber. The ELIO has a dual-height VBG fifth wheel allowing it to couple up with Swift's conventional trailers.
Swift is the first operator in the UK to use the Continental 60series tyres.
