• Iveco has extended the Daily range with a number of variants powered exclusively by CNG (compressed natural gas). The vans and chassis-cabs range from 3.5 to 5.2 tonnes GVW with wheelbases from 3.3 to 3,9m.
They carry the model suffix .11G, designating a factory installed 2,8-litre spark-ignition engine. Maximum power is 106hp (79kW) at 3,800rpm with 220Nm (1621bft) of torque at 2,200rpm. Emissions beat Euro-2 by more than 75% to qualify for the Powershift scheme's Band 3. The 190-litre CNG tanks are located on the chassis to avoid intrusion into the loadspace or bodywork. These tanks increase kerbweights by around 250kg and are said to give a useable range of 150-220 miles.
The cost premium is in the region of £4,000, but by meeting Powershift Band 3 the CNG models are eligible for a grant equivalent to 75% of this premium.
Next week's CM will feature Iveco's latest developments in CNG technology.
