by Bryan Jarvis • Naylors Transport of Leyland, Lancashire has taken the first of Trail. master's latest Superlight 26-pallet curtainsiders for its 20-strong bulk distribution fleet.
The 13.6m trailer runs on RO-R Flexair tri-axle suspension with Alcoa aluminium wheels to tare out at 6,500kg, including lateral twin-layer load restraints, 28mm half-lap hardwood flooring and a lifting front axle.
Made from high tensile steel, it is based on threepiece main beams, 1-cross members and pressed-steel side raves.
The roof is one-piece aluminium with a single swing centre post and an Airflow front bulkhead.
"The new trailer allows us to achieve a tonne more than our others," says Stephen Naylor, who prefers steel to aluminium for maximum service life.
Rothwell near Leeds haulier Vanguard Vehicle Services is the first user of Trailmaster's new 60tonne low-loader which weighs less than 12 tonnes and has a removeable hydraulic gooseneck. It is designed to haul plant and machinery up to 60 tonnes under STGO Cat 2 but can also work under Cat 1 or C&U regulations.
The rear bridge measures 4.57x2.49m; the timbered main dropwell bed is 7.3m long.
Tr-axle air suspension with a raise/lower capability and J-rated twin 285/70R 19.5s come as standard: a self-tracking rear axle is optional.
