• The Municipal Passenger Transport Association has told the Ministry of Transport that it considers the cost of fitting and maintaining tachographs on stage carriage vehicles would be prohibitive. The Associatior had, with other interested parties, been askec to examine the draft proposals for tachograph5 and comment upon them, The MPTA has also been studying the pro posals for standard buses and the effects o introducing decimal currency. The Associatior has been asked by the Ministry to take the lead in the matter of standards for double deck buses, while the PTA has been asked te take a similar lead in respect of single-deckers Following meetings with the Ministry in March the MPTA has been studying manufacturers draft proposals for standards relating to city service double-deckers, urban stage carriage single-deckers and rural stage carriage single deckers.
On decimal currency, the Association hat approached the Road Transport Indust Training Board for co-operation in making film for use in training conductors to deal witi decimal coinage. The suggestion came fron a member, who felt that, possibly in associa tion with the PTA, the production of such film would not only provide clearer instructior of more lasting valueThan personal training bu would enable employees to have this trainine several times over if necessary.
