WE RECORD with regret the deaths of Leon Van Hool, managing director of Van Hoot coach builders, John Niblock, former National Bus regional director for Wales and the Marches, George Stott, and Lord Geddes.
Mr Van Hool, whose company builds coaches and trailers, died unexpectedly at the age of 47 on May 1. He leaves a widow and three children.
Mr Niblock, who retired in 1979, started his career with Crosville Motor Services in 1932. After NBC's formation in 1969 he successively held posts as chairman and regional executive for Eastern Region, group executive for marketing and operational research, and director of the central activities group. He was appointed to Wales and the Marches Region in 1977.
Mr Stott was a former Donside, Aberdeenshire haulage contractor. He owned one of the largest private fleets in the North of Scotland, running fish and farm food throughout the UK.
Lord Geddes, who was 86, was general secretary of the Union of Postal Workers from 1944-57 and chaired the committee which proposed the operator licensing system for road haulage in the Sixties. He was a part-time board member of London Transport.
