safety and cut costs by fitting an Allison automatic transmission to one of its trucks on a Milk Marque contract in Gloucestershire.
Ryder customer manager Peter Backhouse specced an Allison World series transmission to the Leyland Daf FT75.270 to reduce transmission maintenance and driver stress on a job which involves narrow lanes and precise parking. So far there has been no fuel consumption penalty. The 3.25m-wheelbase tractor hauls an 8.42m Crane Fruehauf 16,000litre tanker. The 10.6m artic grosses out at 26 tonnes.
