ALICENCE was granted to Castle Carriers, Ltd., by the 'Northern Licensing Authority, last week, on the same terms as that previously held by Mr. Ronald Little, Barnard Castle, whose business has been purchased by the applicant from the Official Receiver in Bankruptcy. Mr. G. A. Carter, director of the applicant concern, said that there was need for the continuance of Mr, Little's facilities and the Official Receiver had been able to supply details of the earnings of the business.
Objections were lodged by the Railway Executive and the Special Traffics (Pickfords) Division of the Road Haulage Executive, whose counsel, Mr. I. L. k. Croft, said that the opposition was particularly directed against that ,part of the application relating to "occasional journeys to the London area and the Southern Counties."
Mr. Carter stated that this condition was required in order to serve soldiers at Barnard Castle camps where many new houses had been built. Occasional postings of personnel necessitated the removal of their furniture and personal effects. The relevant clause was sanctioned.
