by Derren Hayes • About 200 drivers at P&O Pandoro could be balloted for industrial action if a settlement over a new pay deal is not reached with management.
The drivers working at Pandoro's depots in Fleetwood, Leeds, Stokeon-Trent and Leighton Buzzard have been told by management they are being paid £50 a week above the market rate.
Last year Pandoro drivers accepted a pay freeze as well as losing £25 in adjusted bonuses. Many drivers feel a further cut in the new wage deal could require action to be taken.
The Transport and General Workers Union was alerted to the potential problem at a local branch meeting between union officers and shop stewards last week.
T&G officer John Tooey says: "It was said they might lower wages by £50 a week—that concerns the drivers a little and motivates their interests."
No formal offer has yet been made by the company—once it has, drivers will be balloted on whether to accept it and if rejected the union would act.
