• Parcelforce has failed to install a new national agreement after workers threw out a union-brokered agreement designed to increase the parcel carrier's flexibility.
Negotiations are continuing with the National Communications Union with the aim of cracking on for a deal", says Parcelforce.
CWU members rejected the deal in a ballot, despite recommendations from the union's national executive to accept the offer. Union leaders acting for most of Parcelforce's 14,000 staff had wanted wage increases of around 2.6%.
Parcelforce refuses to confirm that the deal would have cut its wage costs, saying that it would have improved flexibility and made it more competitive. Neither management nor unions are revealing details of the recent proposals, or saying why the workforce rejected it.
