• Ross & Bonnyman has launched a lightweight tail-lift with
a 500kg capacity. Replacing the torsion bars used in the closing action has allowed the weight of the lift to be reduced to 170kg. The lift is available in 12 or 24V versions and uses a cam system to pivot the platform into the closed position as it is raised prior to driving off.
As well as being 70kg lighter the lightweight lift is almost E300 cheaper than the standard product. However Ross & Bonnyman will continue to produce both models as some companies prefer the more rugged design of the standard
product. I •••• • Tartan was much in evidence at the Scottish IRTE with two
trailers sporting ink-jetted clan colours on their curtains.
On the Boalloy stand in the Macbeth old colours was its latest "high top"—a 38-tonne tri-axle built for TIP Trailer Rental. With an overall height of 4.34m it takes advantage of the removal of height restrictions for vehicles over 32 tonnes.
SDC displayed a 13.6m triaxle trailer with the Robertson tartan writ large over the entire curtain; the company can make curtains in any tartan an operator requires.
• Avon showed a prototype low-profile drive axle tyre and
its latest wide single (ARNO) for trailers. The 296/60 R22.5 drive-axle tyre was displayed to gauge operator interest. Moving to a plain groove pattern on the wide single is said to reduce noise and increase tread life. Avon will continue to produce the AR140 for the foreseeable future but it will ultimately be phased out in favour of the AR240.
Having severed its connection with Motorway Tyres Avon plans to work through independent distributors. Investment in machinery is designed to treble its capacity.
