a much more aggressive looking machine. The grille gives the Crafter the appearance of a Transit on steroids-the VW designers appear to be hell-bent on getting their new van noticed. It's not to everyone's tastes, but this tester is a big fan.
That aside, the Crafter also differs from the Sprinter in the choice of power options although our test vehicle happened to have the same 110hp rating as the Sprinter. But you wouldn't have guessed it from their relative performance as the Crafter required a lot more work on the accelerator for the same effect.
That said, the VW remains a strong candidate. The interior is virtually identical with the Sprinter, offering the same high levels of appointment and fit and finish, while its active and passive safety features ensure driver and load security are taken care of.
While the steering lock of the Crafter isn't in the turn-on-asixpence class of the Daily or Sevel, its manoeuvrability is certainly adequate, with good visibility to the side and straight ahead
