• Late last year CM tested MAN's promising new five cylinder 32.322 VF eight wheeler (CM 10-16 Dec 1992), a working vehicle borrowed from Tyneside operator T Tulip & Sons. Poor fuel results led us to believe that something was amiss under the hood. The owner was also experiencing bad consumption.
A subsequent check by MAN revealed that the truck, the first 32.322 on the road in the UK, was fitted with a pre-production fuel pump. This was changed and Tulip now says consumption has dropped by more than 10% to around 382 lit/100km (7.4 mpg)-at the better end of its fleet average and it is buying another.
We retested the truck last week and can confirm the improvement. The new results (left) are shown alongside the trucks from our comparison.
