'T'HE practice of lorry drivers stopping 1 for rests on the edge of the road rather than in lay-bys was criticized by Mr. E. Marsharn, defending John Parkin, a Sheffield lorry driver, Who admitted careless driving at Darlington on Monday.
It was stated that Parkin had collided with a parked lorry at dawn, causing a third lorry. to crash into the rear of his own lorry and trailer. In a statement, Parkin wrote that he could remember little of the accident, but there was no question of his falling asleep.
• Mr. Marsham suggested that apart from the parking practice, the triple impact was probably caused by bad light. Parkin was fined £8, with £15 16s. costs.
