• An SAF Vohh Retarder for trailers, on show at Amsterdam, will be available in the UK at the end of the year from IMS of Shepshed near Loughborough.
The hydrodynamic unit works between two axles, with a spread of at least 1.3m, offering a braking system for drawbars and semi-trailers.
Braking performance is quoted as 0.08g at 30km/1, increasing with speed. None of the unit's component parts wear due to the braking action; while heat generated is dispersed through an integral cooling system which maintains a low temperature.
The installation adds 300kg to unladen weight and can be made to operate independently or with the service brakes.
