• Truck manufacturer AWD is moving into the municipal and public utility markets with 71 trucks on order.
These markets were once dominated by its predecessor GM Bedford.
Gwynedd County Council has placed one of the largest orders for 15 TL tippers, ranging from 7.5 tonnes to 13 tonnes. fitted with bodies by Edbro and Danline International. The trucks were supplied by Davro, of Chester, which has also supplied the Merseyside and North Wales Electricity Board with two M1120 4x4 chassis cabs, to be fitted with dropside bodies and Hiab cranes.
AWD sales director Sandy Young says: "There are many big Bedford fleets to be replaced in the near future and we have every intention of recapturing a major share of this important market."
CI Development work on the TL-cabbed, Cummins-powered Multidrive artic, due to be launched this spring, is nearing completion. A leading national tanker operator has already shown interest.
