QAs a transport manager responsible for more than 60 drivers I have my hands full because we haul anything anywhere in the UK and on the Continent. Recently I have been told that a couple of my drivers are pulling the fuse on the tachographs. I have tried to detect it but it seems impossible. There is no situation where the drivers have to do this and I think that they are doing it for their own benefit.
SH, Birmingham AFrom the number of letters I get on this subject it seems to be a practice that is on the increase.
Firstly it would seem easy to fit a device that would make the tachograph totally inoperative if the electrical supply was interfered with and only resettable by a fitter.
But what is more serious is that these instruments can be tampered with in the first place. I have asked Lucas Kienzle to come back to me with an answer and will go into print next month.
