The decision to move to a bigger site with better access has put back the opening of GPS's hub by a month. Dylan Gray reports.
NEW PALLET network Global Pallet Systems (GPS) has delayed the opening of its hub by a month so it can move into a bigger site to compete more effectively with the top pallet networks.
GPS decided in December to move to a site at Fradley Park, Lichfield, Staffs, instead of one near Kidderminster,Worcs.
Founder Mike Chamberlain says:-Were moving hubs because the new place is easier to get to. It's an old aircraft hanger which also gives us a lot more space.
The new site puts us between UK Pallets and Palletforce," he adds. GPS has signed up 61 members to date and will cover the whole of the UK, Chamberlain plans for the UK's 10th pallet specialist to be a "friendly network" which deals with its members directly. There is a one-offjoining fee of i1,000, with services such as insurance and software included in the pallet price.
Chamberlain expects to handle up to 1,500 pallets on its opening night, rising to 2.500 a night by the end of its first year. The opening will now take place on 12 March.
