1 QUESTION Ivan Stjernqvist's assertion that "Scania is the only engine manufacturer that still uses individual cylinder heads" (CM25 Jan uary).Mercedes' 500 Series V6 and V8 diesels, which will power Actros chassis for another two or three years, retain the same onehead-per-cylinder layout.
However their DaimlerChrysler HPEP in-line-six successors will feature the rigid one-piece 'slab' cylinder head for a tighter,stiffer overhead-camshaft valve train. Alan Bunting Harpenden, Herts
