Directive 2000-53EC is now in force. As a result, vehicle manufacturers must offer a free lake-back' service for customers whose vehicles have reached the end of their working lives.
lveco has chosen specialist vehicle recycler Cartakeback as its main disposing agent-and Cartakeback has subcontracted Charles Trent to help process end-of-life Ivecos.
John Wheeler, Ivecds homologation engineer, says: "The aim of this legislation, which is driven by Europewide targets, is to ensure that as much of the vehicle (75%) is recycled and a minimum is sent to scrap. This ensures disposal of the vehicle is as environmentally friendly as possible.
The vehicles that fall within this requirement are M1, cars and buses up to and including 3,500kg; and Ni, vehicles up loan including 3,500kg.
A Certificate of Disposal is issued by the Authorised Treatment Facility which confirms the vehicle has been adequately disposed of, and confirms to the DVLA that the vehicle is no longer owned by the person on the registration document."
