Govt on NV shortages
• More than 4,000 operators are to be asked to tell the Government how WV driver shortages are affecting them.
The Road Haulage and Distribution Training Council (RHDTC) is launching a national survey over the next three months to provide the Government with "hard data" to prove that a problem exists.
Using telephone interviews and questionnaires some 4,500 employers will be asked if they believe there is a shortage of skilled drivers, and how they feel the industry can attract and train enough LGV drivers.
The RHDTC will present its findings to the Government. It hopes they will confirm its belief that the Government needs to provide financial support to speed up the pace of training for new entrants into the industry.
