A Style of Body which Enables the Coach Proprietor to Cater for Tastes or Needs.
IT HAS always appeared strange to us that so little attention has been paid in this country to coaches of what may be termed the Riviera type. In the district of their origin the weather is usually equable, whilst in this country it cannot be relied upon to the same
extent, and it is, therefore, of vastly greater importance to provide vehicles which can take advantage of all vagaries of the weather without causing undue discomfort to their passengers.
James Bartle and Co., Ltd., of Lancaster Road, London, W.11, have recently supplied a number of 28-seater bodies of this type mounted on Karrier chassis. We recently had an opportunity of inspecting some of these vehicles, and were much impressed by the quality of the workmanship displayed and the really fine finish. We illustrate one of a number supplied to Messrs. Timpson Bros. The special features of this vehicle include a folding waterproof cover to the open seats and all-weather side curtains which open with the doors. The seats at the front are upholstered in antique maroon leather, whilst the interior seats, which, incidentally, are exceptionally comfortable, are trimmed in Bedford cord cloth, with laces and carpets to match. Drop windows are provided for the rear portion, ventilation also being afforded by a roof ventilator. Spring blinds are provided for all windows, and there is a large luggage container under the rear of the chassis.
The screen and the side wings which are fitted to it are of all-metal construction, which greatly reduces the tendency for rattle to occur.
