NEARLY 200 Total oil tanker drivers have voted overwhelmingly in favour of a pay increase which boosts their annual salary to £30,881.
The 4% increase, which is backdated to January, includes an extra day's holiday.
John Moulsdale, regional industrial organiser for the Transport & General Workers Union, says the deal was heavily influenced by the launch of the 48-hour working week next year.
"At long, long last people are beginning to look at the importance of having quality rest periods and leisure time," he explains. The deal with the contractor, Wincanton, follows the introduction of a four-days-on/four-daysoff shift system which boosted pay to £29,695 in February (CM 15 February).
Drivers will now work 169 shifts of nearly 12 hours every year.
