SCAN1A HAS released details of the five-pot diesel engine that will power the all-new P-Series. Following Scania's modular build philosophy, it's based on the 11litre six-cylinder engine; it will have a displacement of 8.9 litres.
According to Scania's powertrain boss Urban Johansson, the engine is heavier than the smaller six-pot it replaces, but by using the longer stroke of the 11-litre engine the driving characteristics are much improved.
It will meet Euro-3 initially (with EGR later to meet Euro-4), and will be rated at 230,270 and 310hp.
The new P-Series is due for launch at the IAA Hanover truck show in September so for now Scania is keeping details under wraps.
