• Some agreements and restrictive practices between transport undertakings are prohibited under European Economic Community Regulation no, 1017/68 which comes into operation in the United Kingdom on July 1.
The prohibition refers to those agreements which might affect trade between member countries and which could prevent, restrict or distort competition within the Community. Some types of agreements, however, are exempted from the prohibition.
The Department of the Environment has recommended that UK transport operators should terminate any restrictive practices or agreements which are included in the prohibition or modify them so as to remove the relevant restriction before July 1. Companies in doubt about particular agreements should seek legal advice.
EEC Regulation 1017/68 is contained in the Official Journal of the EEC, Special Edition 1968. This is in two volumes which are available from HMSO price £4.15. They are not sold separately. The relevant Regulation occupies between 10 and 12 pages, photostat copies can be had from HMSO, PO Box 569, London, at 5p a page.
Supplementary Regulations 1629/69 and 1630/69 are relevant to the prohibition also and can be obtained in the same way.
