• Vauxhall Motors displayed a prototype natural gas-powered Combo van at the Fleet Show at Silverstone a few weeks ago.
The vehicle has a range of 130-200 miles (depending on tank size) and can run on petrol or gas. A number of local authorities are carrying out extensive evaluation tests.
Running costs and exhaust emissions are significantly lower with gas power and Vauxhall's Ian Hucker says: "The cost of the conversion is about £2,000-£2,500."
Dave Crowther, the NGV product manager at British Gas says: "We will install refuelling facilities free of charge for natural gas fleet users.
"We are now working to gain Parliamentary support for the development of an NGV industry in the UK."
