the Guy Sheppard article and Commercial Motor's comment in 1-7 March issue relating to the number of foreign trucks entering the UK haulage market.
The comments made by Ken Harvey of Bolton have been quoted many times before by UK hauliers suffering the cut-throat rates offered by foreign competition. Cheap foreign diesel, road tax, wages etc all add to the misery of the British haulier.
How amusing that these patriotic hauliers are now crying foul play against overseas competition. How many British truckers run British trucks or buy other British products? Not many!
Stand on any motorway bridge and count the number of Swedish, German or French vehicles. The hauliers of this country are only now facing the same cheap imports that every other industry has faced for years. The same goes for everyone—if you're not backing Britain don't expect Britain to back you!
