ANKER DRIVERS at Suckling ransport working on the firm's mtract for Conoco are expected ) accept a pay deal boosting their ages by up to 20 %.The 45 drivers ad voted to strike over a disparity Mween their pay and that of other rivers working on the Conoco :intract, but last minute talks verted the action (CM I March). The package emerged from talks between Suckling and the Transport and General Workers Union (T&G) the union has strongly recommended that it should be accepted.

Ron Webb, T&G national secretary for transport, says: "This really is a groundbreaking deal.We suspended our industrial action to allow talks to proceed and in this instance 'meaningful' really has proved to be just that" For the Suckling drivers, basic pay will increase from £11.91 to i14.20/hr, with higher rates for weekends, overtime and rest-day working and sick pay.

Suckling Transport MD Peter Lamersays he will wait for the result of the ballot before commenting on the deal, which he -very much hopes" will be accepted.

Lamer has previously expressed optimism that the dispute would be resolved, but also argued that it is "not unusual for suppliers to the same company to offer their employees different terms and conditions of employment".
