• UK removals giant Pickfords is preparing for changes in the housing market by adding 48 new rigid pantechnicons to its fleet at a cost of £2.5m.
Apart from four Leyland Daf 7.5-tonne 45-Series, the newcomers are all Volvos: 42 FL618 17tonners and a brace of 14-tonne FL614s.
Birmingham-based Bevan Motor Bodies added the body
work, which includes thicker body and floor panels than normal and extensive use of aluminium and stainless-steel fittings.
Most of the new vehicles have four-container bodies but the order includes several two, three and six-container vehicles plus a number of narrow models for use in and around central London.
