• More than 250 Irish hauliers working out of Dublin Port are set for a showdown with shippers and consignors after demanding an increase in rates.
At a packed meeting of the Irish Road Haulage Association in Dublin earlier this week, operators voted in favour of negotiating increased rates.
More than 6,000 containers a week are handled by the port and any action by hauliers would cause severe congestion.
IRHA director-general Chris McCormack says he will be representing his members and looking for a settlement which reflects the increasing costs of haulage.
"There's a large number of boxes to be moved and large numbers of hauliers not making money," he says. "The hauliers are resolved and united more than ever before in Ireland."
