• Customs Officers have discovered almost a tonne of cocaine in a truck at Winchester services.
Last Friday (9 May), they seized BOOkg of the illegal Class A drug, worth over £50m, hidden in a consignment of groundnuts. Two men, 40-year-old Patrick Fitzgerald and 35-year-old
Andrew Hunter, were arrested at the site. A roadblock led to the arrest of a third man, 56-year-old Stuart Thornhill. His brother, Ian, 52, handed himself into Customs the next day.
A Customs spokesman says it was the second large cocaine seizure made in 24 hours.
