• Police in East Yorkshire have arrested two people in connection with the theft of hundreds of litres of diesel from trucks in a haulage company's yard.
A police helicopter was despatched in the covert operation on Catfoss industrial estate, near Hornsea.
Officers patrolling M Silverside & Son's yard on 5 April at around 23.30hrs caught the suspects as they arrived at the haulier's yard.
Approximately 325 litres of fuel had been stolen from the company over a three-day period. Owner Mike Silverside says thieves had pumped the diesel out by hand.
"We have been trying to catch them for ages," adds another local haulier. "This sort of crime is rife around here."
The 38-year-old man and 27year-old woman, both from Hull, were charged with theft after their arrest in the compound and remanded on conditional bail. They have entered a plea of not guilty and will appear before Beverley Magistrates on 6 June
