Operators will achieve better resale prices if they kit their vans out with factory-fit options, reckons Manheim Auctions
By Kevin Swallow VANS SPECIFIED with factory-fit added extras will get you a greater financial return when they come to be re-sold, advises Manheim Auctions.
A recent closed sale for Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles, held by Manheim, found that vans with metallic paint, air-con, climate control, sat-nay, front and rear parking sensors and electric packs, including windows, mirrors and seats, "were in very strong demand".
Alex Wright, Manheim's commercial vehicle sales director, explained: "The CV market often takes its cues from trends within the car market. The self-employed market is always focused on vans with 'kerb appeal', since these visually project a sound and credible perception of their businesses to potential customers.
"There is an increasing requirement for their daily workhorses to 'cross over' into lifestyle usages; acting as a second 'car' for family trips etc. The demand for these lifestyle vans is growing, and benefits can be measured in terms of enhanced sale values and quicker sale.
"Accurate vehicle descriptions are key," he says, "and Manheim ensures that these are captured so we can market our vans to the best possible audience." •
