A NEW dual purpose lightweight tipper body that doubles as a bulk carrier when converted, is being built by Wilcox of Peterborough.
The new body is built of lightweight aluminium alloy sections with extension panels that are folded inwards to the body sides when the conversion is done.
Specially designed tie bars are then fitted to give extra strength to the floor unit and hold the folded down sides in place.
The posts, used when the sides are up, are stored in a box at the back of the headboard. Wilcox say the conversion job is simple enough for one man to carry out in minutes. When flat, the vehicle is suitable for pallets or bags. It is 6.4 metres (21 feet) long and 2.2 metres wide (7 feet 10 inches) with side panels 1.5 metres high with their extensions (5 feet).
The deck is built of quarter inch plate and the sides are ten gauge but the full length integral sub-frame is made of high tensile aluminium alloy channels with pressed section outriggers and cross members. Two of the new bodies have already been delivered. One to I Miln Marsters, of King's Lynn I and the other to R. J. Seaman.
