• There needs to be a national strategic approach to port development and connecting infrastructure to get goods to and from the port.
• There needs to be a national network of intermodal terminal interchanges to take freight from road to rail to avoid losing private investment overseas.
• Provision of safe and secure lorry parking: The local fear that large lorry parks will bring crime and degradation can be avoided with a national structure and strategic approach.
• Planning constraints on Goods Vehicle Operating centres (GVOC) if licenses fall under the remit of the bill rather than the independent Traffic Commission.
• Road reclassifications and weight limits need to be part of a strategic national plan to remain consistent across the UK.
