The armed hijack of the HGV at dawn from a truckstop near Saint-Germainles-Corbeil is the latest in a new wave of crime against trucks. Two Portuguese drivers, en route to Belgium, were forced out of their cab at gunpoint by two men just before 05:00hrs. Police later recovered the vehicle and trailer 30km away, minus the load.
Local police say foreign vehicles are being particularly targeted and have warned drivers not to discuss their intended routes with strangers, including staff at pickup points. Other recent armed attacks include the hijacking of French and Dutch vehicles.
