a year could leave the industry if the current staff turnover rate continues, warns the Road Haulage & Distribution Training Council. The RHDTC, which is carrying out a survey into the industry's manpower, skills and training needs, says the UK could be facing a driver shortage crisis within 18 months.
The RHDTC is 'preparing a case to put to Government for both national and regional support in a bid to speed up the pace of training for new entrants to the industry. Initial results from the survey on 4 skills shortages, in which 5,000 companies have taken part, will be known next month.
