A N application of the sand-blasting ..171 principle is found in the latest product of B.E.N. Patents, Ltd., 92, Tottenhatn Court Road, London, W.1. The device is a sparking-plug cleaner intended mainly for use in maintenance and repair shops. It consists of an apparatus for spraying the points and
interior of a plug with a jet consisting of a special preparation of carborundum and air. The searching effect of this spray is intense, and a plug exposed to it for a space of about eight seconds emerges thoroughly cleansed.
The accompanying illustration shows the appearance of the device. The flexible lead from a compressor is fitted to the orifice in the" base of the appliance, while the plug is held over the hole in the top, a soft washer sufficing to make an air-tight joint.
After cleaning, a blast of pure air is needed to remove the ,dust.
The jet is composed of an inner and outer member. Air discharged from the former induces suction in the latter, so drawing up and mixing with the powder in whickits base is submerged. Carbon from the plug falls back into the abra. hive material, but we understand that its diluting effect is negligible and, as some waste is inevitable, the container need never be emptied, merely replenished occasionally.
Known as the Cyclone sparking plug cleaner, it is supplied with ,a Schrader chuck-fitting or a lever air-valve and costs 22s. 6d. or 27s. 6d. respectively.
