WEIGHTS and measures inspectors for the East Sussex County Council are learning foreign languages in an effort to control overloaded lorries passing through the county's villages. Many of the drivers cannot speak English.
Inspectors now have a --,cabulary of 1,500 words
including technical phrases. The Department of the Environment has become interested and has started a pilot scheme at Hastings with traffic inspectors from Dover and Brighton.
Inspectors in the London area will go for training at a language centre in Shaftesbury Avenue.
