THE biggest tail-lifts to be inset within the rear end of vans are featured in two 50cum (1,800cuft) pantechnicons added to the computer-moving fleet of Giltspur Buliens at Hinckley, Leicestershire.
The fleet consists of specialised vehicles designed for handling delicate electronic equipment with the Ratcliff three-ton tail-lifts inset within the body so that the rear end of the body can be completely closed off for customs sealing.
In this position the tail-lift is close enough to the rear axle to avoid fitting the hydraulic stablising jacks customary with heavy-duty lifts.
Each 9.1m (30ft) long pantechnicon has a Vanplart grp body mounted on a Bedford KM chassis having softer springs than usual to keep the ride as jar-free as possible.
