• The E Series van from Mazda has been updated with a redesigned interior, a new brake load sensing valve and a higher payload. Mazda claims a load volume of 5.7m3, a load length of 4.0m with the 1212 optional split seats folded down, and a maximum payload of 1,300kg. Loading height is 600rnm.
The van comes with twin sliding doors and a tailgate as standard. A security grille is available for the glazed tailgate.
Two engines are offered: a 2.2-litre diesel producing 136Nm (lDOlbft) at 2,000rpm and 70hp; and a 2.0-litre petrol delivering 152Nm (112Ibft) at 2,500rpm and 94hp.
Front windows have a lower line to improve visibility, while the dash is given an electronic speedometer and trip meter and a Sony RDS stereo-cassette. Safety comes in the shape of a driver's airbag, reinforced nose and side impact beams. Security
includes remote central locking, engine immobiliser and an alarm, all as standard.
Prices for the new Mazda start at £10,795 with petrol engines and £11,495 for diesel, with Mazda's standard three-year/60,000mile warranty including European roadside assistance and six-year anti-perforation cover. Vans bought before the end of March 2000 will come with a year's comprehensive insurance, £1,000 worth of accessories, a five-year warranty or a £500 discount.
